Explain how the Gold Rush transformed the economy of California, including the types of products produced and consumed, changes in towns (e.g., Sacramento, San Francisco), and economic conflicts between diverse groups of people. Notes on Using Data
Students will work in small groupg to locate the information needed to complete their worksheet on the World Wide Web. Websites to be used will be designated by teacher and given to the students via a powerpoint presentation they will download. Each group will be assigned a portion of the research to be shared with the whole class towards the end of the lesson.

Problem Statement
California was greatly affected by the discovery of Gold by John Marshall in 1848. The subsequent Gold Rush caused many changes in the California economy and culture. Our goal is to research the products produced and consumed during the Gold Rush and analyze the cultural diversity introduced to CA and the impact it has today.

Students will work at the computer groups

Time keeper - keeps group aware of time limits.
Record keeper- records research findings on worksheet.
Facilitator - keeps group on task.

Present research findings orally to the class. Other groups will fill in information on their worksheets.

There will be no waiting. Each group will have one computer each student will have a role at all times.
