Lesson Summary
Students will be able to utilize apple manipulatives. The students will count items that are added and subtracted to the apple tree. Students will also be able to record results. Lesson will last 30 minutes.


Learning Objectives and Computer Functions
This lesson plan uses 5 objectives.

Objective 1: Students will add apples to the tree
Uses Non-Computer Tool to add apple manipulative to the apple tree

Objective 2: Students will subtract apples from the tree
Uses Non-Computer Tool to subtract apples from the tee

Objective 3: Students will record their results
Uses Drawing Software to write their results on the Smart Board

Objective 4: Practice 1-1 correspondence
Uses Non-Computer Tool to strengthen counting skills and recognize results

Objective 5: Student will be able to recognize 10 apples on a tree by the end of the lesson
Uses Non-Computer Tool to count the amount added and subtracted.

Uses Other to Drag and and Drop apple mages onto the Smartboard.


Problem
Problem Nature
Students will decide how many apples must be added or subtracted from the tree to arrive at the number specified. The number will range from 1-10.

Notes on Using Data
The data will be given to students using the large interactive numbers on the Smart Board. When students grasp the idea of the activity they will be able to change the data given. Students and teacher will save data on the Smart Board.

Problem Statement
Class, today we are going to decide how many apples must be added to the tree to come up with the number shown on the Smart Board. Everyone needs to put 2 apples on their tree. The number 4 is shown on the Smart Board, we need to decide how many apples should be added to the tree so that we are able to see 4. I will then tell students that when we get hungry we start to eat some of the apples. Pretend that we all ate one of the apples off the tree. How many apples are remaining on the tree?

Integration Strategies
The Smart Board will be integrated into the lesson. Students will take turns choosing a number or adding / subtracting the apples from the computer graphic.

Organization Strategies
Students will be called to participate using ice pops sticks with each students name on each, so that each child has the opportunity to participate on the Smart Board.

Elaboration Strategies


Results Presentation
Students will draw put show the teacher 2 sets of apples on the apple tree and state how many are there in all. Or the student can show the teacher how they subtracted some apples from the tree.

A large apple tree graphic will be displayed on the Smart Board. The apples will be along the bottom. The results will be written on the apple tree graphic.


Activities
Activities Before Using the Computer
Before we use the Smart board to drag and drop the apple graphics, the students will be at their tables using the apple manipulatives. The students will write numbers down on their worksheet.

Strategies to develop students' attitudes towards the problem, motivation, and overall mindfulness:
I will reinforce to the students that the activity is the same as the one we just did together. I will advise them that now they will be able to use their finger to move the apples around on the smart board.

The students can revisit the activity using the Smart Board or work sheet during center time. Students can come up with their own word story problems utilizing the manipulatives.
