Notes on Using Data
Data will be given to students in the form of direct instruction, handouts, class notes, and text readings. Students will be allowed to use any class materials and external research in this project. Students will conduct their own research and save, analyze, and use findings to help identify the most effective methods of advertising for their assigned products.

For this project, you will work in small groups. Each group will be assigned a product to market. Your assignment is to use what you have learned in the text and about the Internet to research, identify, and create advertising materials for this product. Each time will create one brochure, pamphlet, or other form of print media for this project. You should list at least three search engines and web sites that you used for your research. After you create your brochures, we will have a day to present on your group's projects.

Organization Strategies
Students will list findings from Internet search down. One member of each group will be the recorder, who writes down websites and information
One student will be responsible for taking this information and creating a spreadsheet in MS Excel.
Students will be able to compare and contrast various forms of advertising and identify one application.

Elaboration Strategies
Students will be able to take this one idea and create a print ad for their assigned product.
Students will use research to incorporate design and print elements into ad.

Activities
Activities Before Using the Computer
Read text
Be familiar with different types of search engines and how they work
Identify most appropriate search engines and create list of search statements prior to going on computer.

Strategies to develop students' attitudes towards the problem, motivation, and overall mindfulness:
Model effective search strategies
Create relevance to real life activities or situations
Assign products that students are interested in or currently involved in buying decisions
List criteria and rubric so expectations are clearly spelled out.
Demonstrate software as needed and assess for understanding to avoid confusion and frustration.

Activities While Using the Computer
Students will work at the computer groups

Group Information:
Recorder
Timer
Typist

Activities After Using the Computer
After using computer, students should immediately list results or examine the recorder's notes. The spreadsheet student should create a spreadsheet and students can discuss where information should be placed and the pros and cons of each form of media.
Students can also go over the information gathered to see if any additional information is required.
Students can also begin to identify which forms of media would not be appropriate and narrow down their search.
Specific questions to be answered and possible web sites for finding this information can be listed at this time.
Students should also enter into their journals the processes used, successes, and things that may be changed in the future to help the process.

Supporting Activities
students can review text for additional information or other sources of media they wish to examine.
students can begin writing out checklists of things to search for

Students will be assessed by means of:

Included in the assessment:
weekly journals
