located

Notes on Using Data
data can be gathered by internet, text, library, journals, etc... students will be quizzed on various forms of information available and a quick review done on how to use them.
Students will continue to work in their small groups on this project.
Students will save data to their student accounts on the network.

Problem Statement
Today we are going to begin work on designing a print advertisement. In the last lesson you selected one form of advertising that you felt would be most likely to succeed. Now we are going to go over how to create that using research you will gather on marketing techniques. Be sure to be specific on what you want to include in this ad, because the art students will take your information and use it to create an actual brochure, poster, flyer, etc...

Integration Strategies
beginner

Organization Strategies
students will divide up and conduct research on marketing and layout strategies using all forms of information (Internet, text, libraries, journals).
Students will then meet in their small groups to discuss their findings and vote on the best strategies.
students will compile their findings into a table or spreadsheet and select the most desirable strategies.

Elaboration Strategies
students will create a one - two page writeup of instructions for art students to follow. Students should then test the instructions for clarity by attempting to follow their own directions. Edit and clarify where needed.
STudents should remember that the art students that they will be collaborating with have not taken this business class and may not have the background to understand why certain design elements were chosen.

Results Presentation
Students should create a one - two page report giving instructions for art students on how to create the advertisement. Step by step instructions should be used. Students should provide a checklist for art students to follow to insure all design elements are included.

Final product will be presented with the art students in class in a 10 minute presentation.

Finished work will be presented with the art students who created their project in a 10 minute presentation in class.
Business students should cover their research and findings and reasons for their choices of media.
Art students should cover design elements included, choices of color, placement, etc...
Hard copy of advertisement should be provided in class for review.

Activities
Activities Before Using the Computer
students should have selected their one form of media
students will identify different sources of information
students will create search strings and identify search engines to use

Strategies to develop students' attitudes towards the problem, motivation, and overall mindfulness:
students should be reminded that time is limited on the computer so they should enter the lab ready to work with a list of websites or search engines
students should be reminded that any work not completed will be their responsibility to complete.
students should be provided with written instructions in both the classroom and the lab to help keep them on task.

Activities While Using the Computer
Students will work at the computer groups

Group Information:
Business students will work together in small groups to conduct research and writeups.
Roles will be as follows:
writer
recorder
researcher (all members to conduct research)
typist/data entry
timer

Activities After Using the Computer
students should reconvene to create a spreadsheet of information gathered, pros and cons of each strategy
students should discuss how well each strategy will apply to their form of print media and restrictions on this project (i.e. budget, ink, computers/technology available, etc...)

Supporting Activities
students can use other forms of research such as libraries, journals, text materials.
students should create lists of websites, search engines, and search strings.
students should create or review their checklists to help them stay on task
students should begin brainstorming ideas for their print project
students should review their written instructions for the art teams to make sure they are understandable and easy to follow.

Assessment
Students will be assessed by means of:

Included in the assessment:
hard copy of print advertisement
write up for art teams to follow (one page minimum)
weekly journal entries
write up 2-3 pages detailing choice of media and strategies.
