Lesson Summary
This lesson is designed to give students a glimpse into various aspects of geography of other nations around the globe. Student will split into groups and will work together. On a given website they will be asked to choose a country that they would "move to" based on given criteria. Then they will briefly present the country they chose, offer three facts about it, and explain why they selected that nation. They will be given a take home assignment in which they will be asked to consider where thier family would move to and what criteria would matter most to them.

Problem Statement
Each group will have to pick a nation that they would emmegrate to based on information that will be given to you. You will also be given a list of questions to answer about your nation. Then, you will tell the class why you chose that country according to your answers.

Students can group the information according to such categories as climate, economics, culture, etc.

They will have to explain why they chose thier country and so will ahve to exlpain why thier criteria was important to them.


Results Presentation
They will hand in (the next day as homework) a one page written report of the country that thier family would choose, thier criteria, and why. It will need to be one page, with complete sentences and checked spelling.

They will prepsent to the class orally thier decision and explain it. This will be brief.

They will be able to rely on prior knowledge. They would also be able to rely upon classroom maps and thier textbook.

They will be given an introduction to the assignment and the decision making process will be modeled for them.

Students will work at the computer groups

Group Information:
They can divide into roles according to geographical subtopic, such as climate, economy and culture. Each one can research thier subarea individually and then merge information at the end.

 

Activities After Using the Computer
If they should finish early, for extra credit they should look in their book to see if they can find another country that fits the same criteria as the first nation they chose.
