Problem Statement
We are going to learn about the author who wrote the books about Peter Rabbit and all of his animal friends. We will study her life and her stories. Then you will write a story about an animal for a friend.

Have students tell which animals Beatrix Potter saw in real life. Do we have all of these animals in this area? Where did Beatrix Potter live?

Elaboration Strategies
Write a story like the ones written by Beatrix Potter. What kind of characters would be in the story? Would there be people in the story? What would the characters look like?


Results Presentation
Students will use a word processor to write a story of the type written by Beatrix Potter.

Students may choose to draw pictures to illustrate their stories.

We will post stories on the library web site. Pictures drawn by students will be scanned and posted with the stories.

Each student will write their own story based on what the class learned about Beatrix Potter.


Activities
Activities Before Using the Computer
Listen to a story written by Beatrix Potter, and view a video about her life and one of her stories.

Strategies to develop students' attitudes towards the problem, motivation, and overall mindfulness:
Ask students to describe the animals they saw on the video. Ask students to describe the house of Beatrix Potter. What kind of clothes does she wear? What kind of clothes do the children in the video wear? Ask students to tell you about the stories Beatrix Potter writes. Who tells the story? Do the animals talk? Do they wear clothes? What happens in the stories?

Group Information:
Students will explore the Peter Rabbit website, complete at least two activities, and finally use a word processor to write a story similar to the ones written by Beatrix Potter.

Students can draw pictures to illustrate their stories. They can read the stories written by other children and comment on those stories.

Students can draw pictures to illustrate their stories. They can brainstorm ideas for stories. They can discuss the author's life.
