Lesson Summary
The sixth grade students will be shown slides of hurricane devastation. They will then launch small group internet searches for statistics on three strong hurricanes that caused destruction and three that started strong but faded. These statistics should include windspeed, water temperature, longevity, direction and pattern of decreasing power.

Learning Objectives and Computer Functions
This lesson plan uses 20 objectives.

Objective 1: Objective 1-Students will work in small groups on the internet to find statistics on hurricanes.
Objective 2: Objective 2- Students will record group findings for six hurricanes , in the areas of longevity, wind speed, water temperature, direction and pattern of decreasing poweron a recording sheet provided by the facilitator.
Objective 3: Objective 3- Students will cooperate and collaborate while sharing the use of internet technology.
Objective 4: Objective 4- Students will understand hurricane forces and effects while translating facts to recorded context.
Objective 5: Objective 1-Students will work in small groups on the internet to find statistics on hurricanes.

Problem
Problem Nature
This instructional unit will focus on the topic of hurricanes, with an open-ended investigation into the manner in which hurricanes throughout the globe can be diffused or redirected.

Problem Data
located

Notes on Using Data
Data will be formated onto a recording sheet , provided by the facilitator. This sheet includes columns for wind speed, longevity, direction , air and water temperature, and any additional linformation found.

Problem Statement
We have seen pictures of hurricane devastation, and are familiar with the power involved. How can we gather, chart and utilize data on the life-span of such storms so that we can create a model which attempts to redirect or diffuse hurricane movement?

Data Manipulation
Instructions
The learner used computers at level

Integration Strategies
You will transform the information found on the internet to the recording sheet provided.

Organization Strategies
You can group the information into the two groups; those that made land fall and caused damnage and those that died a natural death.Try different web sites to get complete information.

Elaboration Strategies
You can record any information that you find interesting, since your final group model will take into consideration many varied aspects and facts about these hurricanes.

Results Presentation
Completion of the recording sheet provided, with all information for each storm completed. Any additional information found can be added.

Activities
Activities Before Using the Computer
Before using the computer, students can set their pattern of rotation, such as Ian,Molly, Brian forthe internet; Molly, Brian, Ian for the recording chart. They can also brainstorm some hurricane names that they recall and may want to search for.

Strategies to develop students' attitudes towards the problem, motivation, and overall mindfulness:
Students eill be reminded that the more data they collect at this time, the better their next two phases of the overall project will be. This is the crucial phase, with the objective of gathering stron, useful , relevent data.

Activities While Using the Computer
Students will work at the computer groups

Group Information:
Students will work in groups of three or four. While one or two are viewing, the ohter on oir two will be recording the data. They will rotate tasks in an ordered pattern.

Activities After Using the Computer
After their internet search, students can obtain a new recording sheet, if they want to, and organize their data . For example, they may want to reorganize the facts into the two main groups; the storms which hit land and those which regressed naturally.

Supporting Activities
Students not engaged in the internet search can utilize periodicals or encyclopedias for collaborating data collection.

Assessment
Students will be assessed by means of:

Included in the assessment:
Students will be assessed regarding theri cooperative and attentive contributing behavior during this class period. the group will be assess by their recording chart, which must be complete, clear and accurate.
